studying aleister crowley and thelema, i've acquired quite an affinity for esoteric symbols. each of the ones that i use are carefully selected for their meaning.

i've received subtle criticisms from some quarters that the use of these occult and religious symbols is pretentious, suggesting that i profess my art to be of a sacred quality that it isn't. that i profess it to be "holier than thou".

which is bullshit, of course.

the beauty of these symbols are their ability to express ideas and concepts rich in their archetypes. archetypes which transcend culture and history.

there are some things that no combination of words can say. that's why we have art. and that's why i admire esoteric symbols.

9x12, ballpoint pen, marker and ink on bristol.

I think i can see it. That picture is heavy in symbolism,as well as eroticism . there are those who have said that Crowley is one of the most evil men to have lived, but as a friend of mines has said if many would take the time to look, and read his work they would understand and know it as fact that he made a huge contribution to the world that we now live in today, and much more .

I have read, and have a few of his books, and have enjoyed the ones that i have read . Thank you for sharing your Art with and for all to see .

I like this piece! Now, might I quote TO MEGA THERION?

"Yea O my Son, there is no True Path of Light, save that which I have formerly made plain; yet in every Path is Profit, if thou be cunning to perceive it and clasp it. For we win Truth oftentimes by Reflexion, or by the Composition and Selection of an Artist in his Presentation thereof, when else we were blind thereunto, lacking his Mode of Light. Yet were that Art of none avail unless we had already the Root of that Truth in our Nature, and a Bud ready to flower at the Summoning of that Sun."

And, a paraphrase of TO MEGA THERION (very literal a paraphrase, as my source eludes me): "The Artist is greater, for he will use the Symbols to express at all costs, on canvas, his True Will."

So damn all those who say you can't use Symbols! :) There is no where in print that says you can't use a hexegram or Symbol of Phosphorus here of there! ;)

Your style reminds me of John John Jesse!

just keep doing what you do. can't please everybody - and even if you could, well... what fun is that? if somebody isn't unhappy with what you do then you're not really an artist.

i wrote this on your page a few days ago (except much more elaborately), but i just wanted to let you know that i finally received my copy of Postland. very creative, thought provoking, and enjoyable
