as always, ball point pen and prismacolor marker 8.5x11 on 11x14 bristol paper.
this is a portrait of scott massie. he is a singer and songwriter for the pittburgh-based band storm king and a pretty swell guy.
they recently released their first EP and it' really impressive. check them out here: [link]
so, yeah this is the first drawing i've done in a month now. life has been running me ragged lately on all fronts, leaving me no other choice than to leave my beloved pasttime, creating art, on the backburner. but it looks like things are beginning to settle and soon i'll be back to it.
damnits... dont let the life get ya down and ragged too much, bud as usual... this is an awesome piece...i love the dynamic look of the figure and the way you incorporated the trees and background is awesome. nice work!
I've just listened to a few of their songs at their myspace page. Intense! I like how you got to mix the trees and clouds with the guy's T-shirt, and the combination of the blue leafs with the rest of the piece
This is another great one! Love the surreal play between the figure and the landscape. Rockin! Glad to see you pushin the pen again. I know how that fucking life thing can get in the way.
There is no way to measure an artist, or their work, because nothing matters, but their vision. Their acceptance by the rest of the world is merely external.
gracias! yeah, aren't they great? they're definitely driven and talented. i'm glad you like it. been trying to tone done the use of color in my work lately. for years i worked srictly in black and white, and then about a year ago this time i just started experimenting with color. i'm trying to use the things i've learned over the last year and sort of get more back to my heavy line work oriniented and monochromatic roots.
